Tom Athy

Tom Athy is in his 51st year in the golf industry, the past 48 as a course superintendent or director of grounds at Fremont Golf Club, Omaha Country Club and Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln.

A native of Des Moines, Athy played football and basketball at Midland College and stayed in Fremont as a junior high teacher.

In 1976 he started as superintendent and course manager at Hillcrest Golf Course in Fremont. He moved to Fremont Golf Club as assistant superintendent to Nebraska Golf Hall of Famer Doug Petersan and was his replacement in 1979.

Tom was at Fremont before 25 years at Omaha Country Club. Since 2012 he has been at Wilderness Ridge.

He has served on many golf-related boards and is a past president of the Nebraska Golf Course Superintendents Association and the Nebraska Turfgrass Association. He was the NGCSA’s superintendent of the year in 1985.
